A Fun Look at Calendars
Welcome to the new year 1998. Read on for a fun look at
calendars. Discover what has occurred in history, who shares your
birthday and get a head start on planning for your entertainment.
Types of Calendars
Did you know that today may not necessarily be January 4, 1998?
Using the Calendar Converter
today is January
17 on the Gregorian calendar and Tevet 19, 5758 on the Jewish
calendar.
Go to Calendar Land
to find out
what today is on other calendars. The site discusses celestial
calendars, cultural & religious calendars, holidays, and calendar
reform. It also has information on the millennium.
To learn more about the different calendars and how they are used
see http://genealogy.org/~scottlee/cal-overview.html.
Today in History
If you are curious about what happened today in history, who was
born on your birthday, or are interested in the history of the
calendar, the following sites are fun to explore.
Today in History , Calendars
- A Guide to locating an event for each day of the year
,
Michigan Electronic library
, and Today in History from the Library of Congress
will keep you entertained for hours.
Britannica Lives tells you what
famous person was born on the date you submit to the site. For
example, these two people were born January 4. Brian D. Josephson
was born in 1940. He discovered the Josephson effect while a
22-year-old graduate student and won the 1973 Nobel Prize for
Physics. Leroy Randle Grumman was born in 1895 and was the
founder of the Grumman Aerospace Corp.
Calendars of Events
Have you had enough history and are ready to plan for the
future?
The Events Calendar covers events in
the categories of arts, business, cyber events, entertainment,
health, kids, lifestyle, movies, music, my town, science, sports,
technology, time machine, trade shows, and travel. Just select
what city and state you are interested in knowing about.
For sports enthusiasts, the Sports Calendar
lists current
league schedules for NBA, NFL, NHL, and NCAA teams.
If you are planning a trip and want to see a play, check out the
Playbill site for information on
broadway, off broadway, regional, national tours, and summer
stock.
Music lovers can go to Musi-cal
where you can search for events around the world by artist,
location, venue or event.
Ticketmaster offers three ways
to find events. You can select a category, use their search
engine, or select a state. Categories include arts, concerts,
sports, family, miscellaneous, general, venues, and most popular.
For events in our area, check out our Events Line .
