Geneva H. Baker
Geneva H. Baker, 93, of 326 Tyler Ave., Clarksburg, died at 9:30 p.m. Thursday,
July 22, 1999, in the Clarksburg Continuous Care following an extended
illness.
She was born Nov. 30, 1905, in Grassy Meadows, Greenbrier County, a
daughter of the late I.C. and Effie Maye Hamrick.
Her husband, Fay F. Baker, preceded her in death on June 1, 1970.
Surviving are one son, G. Robert Baker, White House Point, Fla.; one
brother, George Hamrick, Grassy Meadows; two sisters, Maye H. Rohrbough,
Buckhannon, and Ada Hamrick, Severn, Md.; three granddaughters, Tain Schlesman,
Cathy Hartley, and Susan Rocchio; a special friend, Mary Helen Pernell;
and many additional grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She was also preceded in death by two daughters, Judith Fay, in infancy,
and Jo Anne Winn; five brothers, Jimmy, Cecil, John, Frank and Okey Hamrick;
and one sister, Ruby Rogers.
Mrs. Baker taught school in Greenbrier County.
She was a former employee of Chamberlaine and Flowers Insurance Co.,
and the Farmers and Merchants Bank in Clarksburg.
Mrs. Baker was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Clarksburg,
a life member of Lucinda Rose Auxiliary to Post 573, and a member of the
American Legion Ladies Auxiliary Post 13.
Mrs. Baker spent endless hours in all veteran affairs and did volunteer
work at Veterans Hospital.
Friends will be received at the McGlumphy Funeral Home/Chapel from
2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. Monday. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m.
Tuesday in the funeral home chapel. Interment will follow in the Shinnston
Masonic Cemetery.
Howard S. Blare
SHINNSTON -- Howard Simuel "Bud" Blare, 64, of Wyatt, died at 3 a.m. Friday,
July 23, 1999, at Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown following an extended
illness.
He was born Sept. 11, 1934, a son of Virginia Ted Blare, Ohio, and
the late Howard T. Blare.
His wife, Judith Ann Blare, survives.
Also surviving are five sons, Steve Blare, North Carolina, Robert Marshall,
Ohio, Mike Blare, Kansas, and Danny Blare and Donny Harbert, both of West
Virginia; three daughters, Patricia Kearns, Wyatt, and Karen Cappello and
Diane Dunn, both of West Virginia; three brothers, Burl Blare, Ohio, Bruce
Blare, West Virginia, and Dave Blare, Tennessee; four sisters, Candy Stollings,
Marion Kraus, Ellen Sigley, all of Ohio, and Sue Fox, West Virginia; and
several grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
He was also preceded in death by one brother, Larry Blare, and one
sister, Virginia Blare.
Mr. Blare was a self-employed contractor. He was a veteran of the U.S.
Navy.
Mr. Blare was a member of the Charity Baptist Church in Oakdale.
A memorial service will be held at the convenience of the family.
Dorsey Funeral Home, Shinnston, will be handling the arrangements.
Wilma M. Davis
Wilma Marie Davis, 67, of Wolf Summit, died Friday, July 23, 1999, in the
Monongalia General Hospital in Morgantown.
She was born Oct. 2, 1931, in Nutter Fort, a daughter of Cora E. Seders
Matheny, Wolf Summit, and the late Hiram Lincoln Matheny.
Her husband, Carl Lee Davis, whom she married on Oct. 15, 1948, survives.
Also surviving are one daughter and son-in-law, Teddy L. and Howard
L. Dennison, Wolf Summit; one granddaughter, Tamberly J. Dennison, Shinnston;
one brother and sister-in-law, Ralph and Marie Matheny, Medway, Ohio; one
sister-in-law, Dorothy Dye, Wolf Summit; one niece, Debra L. Jennings,
Wolf Summit; and one nephew, David Matheny, Fairborn, Ohio.
She was also preceded in death by one half-brother, Kenneth Matheny;
and one half-sister, Janet Davidson.
Mrs. Davis was a retired bookkeeper from Bank One after having worked
many years at the Clarksburg Credit Bureau.
She attended the Reynoldsville Christian Church.
Mrs. Davis enjoyed working with crafts and with a best friend, Cindy
White, Quiet Dell, and participated in many area craft shows. She is known
to local crafters as the "pillow lady".
Friends will be received at the Davis-Weaver Funeral Home, 329 E. Main
St., Clarksburg, from 6-9 p.m. today. A funeral service will be held at
11 a.m. Monday in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Ray Satterfield
conducting the service. Interment will follow in the Greenlawn Masonic
Cemetery.
James C. Dunkin
ST. ALBANS -- James C. Dunkin, 74, of St. Albans, formerly of Bridgeport,
died Friday, July 23, 1999, in the Sunrise Care and Rehabilitation Center
after recovering from an amputation.
His wife, Linda Dunkin, survives.
Also surviving are two daughters, Heather Dunkin, Philadelphia, Pa.,
and Amy Dunkin, St. Albans; and one son, Bill Dunkin, Roncerverte.
Mr. Dunkin had retired from the West Virginia State Government Surplus
Property Division.
He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.
Mr. Dunkin was a member of the 83rd Infantry Division and was a recipient
of the Purple Heart and the Bronze Star.
Friends will be received at the Bartlett-Chapman Funeral Home, St.
Albans, from 6-8 p.m. Monday. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m.
Tuesday in the funeral home chapel. Interment will be held at noon Wednesday
at the Bridgeport Cemetery.

BELINGTON -- June Bernadette Evans, 70, of Route 4, Box 708, Buckhannon,
died at 5:55 p.m. Friday, July 23, 1999, at her residence following an
extended illness.
She was born Nov. 26, 1928, in Frostburg, Md., a daughter of the late
Samuel and Della Crowe Weymer.
Her husband, Earl Evans, whom she married July 21, 1951, survives.
Also surviving are two sons, Larry Weymer, York, Pa., and Mark Evans,
Philippi; one daughter, Judy Malone, Route 4, Buckhannon; seven grandchildren
and six great-grandchildren.
She was also preceded in death by 11 brothers and sisters; and two
infant twins.
Mrs. Evans was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
She attended the schools of Frostburg.
Mrs. Evans was employed as a nurse's assistant for 20 years before
retiring.
She was a homemaker and Baptist.
At the request of her family, Mrs. Evans will be cremated. A memorial
service will be held at a later date at her home.

of the arrangements.
Susan F. Gregory
SHINNSTON -- Susan Franceen Gregory, 51, of Haywood, died Saturday, July
24, 1999, at her residence.
She was born Nov. 21, 1947, in Clarksburg, the adopted daughter of
the late William and Pauline Hardy.
Her husband, Duane Moody Gregory, preceded her in death on Aug. 19,
1994.
Surviving are two sons, Michael Moody Gregory, Lumberport, and Mark
Duane Gregory, Meadowbrook; five brothers, George Riley, Clarksburg, Richard
Riley, Fontana, Calif., Steven Thompson, Danville, Ill., Larry Hardy, Bridgeport,
and Jeff Lemon, Florida; three sisters, Patricia Violi, Apache Junction,
Ariz., Elsie Sutton, New Athens, Ohio, and Roxie Williams, Shinnston; two
granddaughters, O'Brian Hope Gregory and Shanden Serae Lynn Gregory; and
several nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Gregory was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Chapter
103 in Shinnston, the White Shrine of Jerusalem No. 15 of Clarksburg, the
American Legion Post 31, the Women's Auxiliary of Shinnston, the Women
of the Moose in Shinnston, and the Haywood Homemakers Club.
She was Baptist.
Friends will be received at the Dorsey Funeral Home, Shinnston, from
6-9 p.m. Monday. A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at
the Shinnston Masonic Cemetery with the Rev. Chad Hutson officiating.
Louise Hartzell
SHINNSTON -- Louise Hartzell, 94, of Swisher Hill, Worthington, died Saturday,
July 24, 1999, in the Fairmont General Hospital.
She was born Feb. 24, 1905, in Rowlesburg, a daughter of the late Charles
and Anice Huffman Riley.
Her husband, Lonnie "Tater" Hartzell, preceded her in death.
Surviving are two brothers and one sister-in-law, Charles Riley, Route
2, Shinnston, and Howard and Vivian Riley, Swisher Hill; two grandchildren,
Robert Hartzell and Carolyn Hartzell; one daughter-in-law, Susanna Hartzell;
four nieces and their husbands, Mary Louise and Tony Orsini, Swisher Hill,
Nancy Basnett, Shinnston, Cathy and Russ Kirkendall, and Joy Beveridge,
all of Ohio; four nephews and their wives, Gary and Criss Riley, Georgia,
Tom and Mary Riley, Route 2, Shinnston, Fred Baker, Texas, and Gene Riley,
Fairmont; one sister-in-law, Agnes Hartzell, Fairview; two great-grandchildren
and five great-great-grandchildren.
She was also preceded in death by one son, Jack Hartzell; two sisters,
Ruth Willis and Vivian Beveridge; and one brother, Filmore Riley.
Mrs. Hartzell retired from the Fairmont General Hospital as a nurse's
aide.
She was a member of the Fairmont Senior Citizens and the Ceramic Club.
Mrs. Hartzell attended the Worthington Baptist Church.

Edna M. Morrison
BUCKHANNON -- Edna M. Morrison, 91, of Route 2, French Creek, died Friday,
July 23, 1999, in the Holbrook Nursing Home.
She was born Oct. 7, 1907, in Crawford, Lewis County, a daughter of
the late James Lot and Mary Elizabeth Simmons Heavner.
Her husband, Claude Cecil Morrison, preceded her in death on Feb. 18,
1971.
Surviving are five sons, Edward "Pete" Morrison, Gretna, La., John
F. Morrison, Clarksburg, Joseph H. Morrison, James L. Morrison and Charles
M. Morrison, all of French Creek; two daughters, Freta M. Roby, Frenchton,
and Leona Pelascini, Ureka, Calif.; 31 grandchildren, and several great-grandchildren
and great-great-grandchildren.
She was also preceded in death by one son, Eugene (Bob) Morrison; one
daughter, Winona Reuss; four brothers and three sisters.
Mrs. Morrison was a member of the Rock Cave Baptist Church.
She was a born-again Christian and a homemaker.

Buckhannon, from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. Monday. Mrs. Morrison will lie in
state from 1-2 p.m. Tuesday at the Rock Cave Baptist Church. A funeral

the French Creek Presbyterian Cemetery.
Lillie Nazelrod
BUCKHANNON -- Lillie Hedrick Nazelrod, 83, of Louisville, Ky., died Friday,
July 23, 1999, in the Baptist East Hospital in Louisville.
She was born July 15, 1916, in Elkins, a daughter of the late Douglass
B. and Vada Kesling Collett.
Twice married, her first husband, Glen Hedrick, preceded her in death;
and her second husband, Alfred Nazelrod, also preceded her in death.
Surviving are three daughters, Lottie Yerkey, Nashville, Tenn., Helen
McCauley, Buckhannon, and Patricia Carey, Louisville; five sons, Denzel
Hedrick, Elon College, N.C., William "Pete" Hedrick, Port Richey, Fla.,
John Wesley Hedrick, with whom she made her home, and Earl Hedrick, both
of Louisville, and Garnett Collett, Mentor, Ohio; one sister, Virginia
Russin, Baltimore, Md.; three brothers, Paul Collett, Elkins, Dennis Collett,
Baltimore, and Daley Collett, Ohio; 31 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren
and one great-great-grandchild.
She was also preceded in death by one son, Alan Gale Hedrick; one daughter,
Glenda Lou Hedrick; two sisters, Cathrine Simmons and Margie Cooper; and
one grandson, Brooks Yerkey Jr.
Mrs. Nazelrod was a homemaker.
She was Protestant.

will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday in the funeral home chapel with the Rev.

ALMA -- Bradford D. "Bub" Reed, 74, of Shirley, died Saturday, July 24,
1999, at his residence.

Loretta R. Simmons
ELKINS -- Loretta Retta Haddix Simmons, 74, of Elkins, died at 8:35 a.m.
Friday, July 23, 1999, in the Ruby Memorial Hospital following an extended
struggle with cancer.
She was born June 13, 1925, in Clarion, Pa., a daughter of the late
Arlie and Mary Gertrude Snyder Haddix.
Her husband, Clarence Simmons, preceded her in death in 1968.
Mrs. Simmons was a 1946 graduate of the Davis Memorial Hospital School
of Nursing, and later received her Bachelor of Science Degree in nursing
from St. Joseph's College of Standish.
She worked for the Davis Memorial Hospital for many years. She was
employed as a public health nurse in Flagstaff, Ariz., worked as the only
person serving as a school nurse in Randolph County for 19 years, worked
summers at Nella's Nursing Home in Elkins, and was employed by Eakin Home
Health Agency until the time of her illness.
Mrs. Simmons was a member of the Allegheny Regional Family History
Society, the West Virginia State Nurses Association, and the Retired Nurses
Alumni of Elkins.
She was an amateur artist and a parishioner of the St. Brendan Catholic
Church of Elkins.
Friends will be received at the Tomblyn Funeral Home, Elkins, from
5-9 p.m. today. A prayer service will be held at 6:30 p.m. today in the
funeral home chapel. Mrs. Simmons will be moved to the St. Brendan Catholic
Church on Monday. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m.
Monday in the church with the Rev. Fr. William Anderson as celebrant. Interment
will follow in the St. Brendan's Catholic Cemetery.

Edra Manley Wyckoff, 103, of Fairmont and Clarksburg, died Thursday, July
22, 1999, at the St. Barbara's Nursing Home in Monongah.
She was born Sept. 16, 1895, in Watson, Marion County, a daughter of
the late Samuel W. and Gertrude Hunsaker Manley.
Her husband, Paul R. Wyckoff, preceded her in death in 1971.
Surviving are one son, William M. Wyckoff, Fairmont; one brother, Samuel
"Sam" Manley Jr., Fairmont; six grandchildren, John M. Wyckoff, Fairmont,

Swanson, Kamuela, Hawaii, William Haynes, Clarksburg, and Edra Fiocca,
Harrison, N.Y.; eight great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
She was also preceded in death by four brothers, William, Chester,
Eugene, and Robert Manley; and five sisters, Hazel Reese, Virginia Cumpston,
Helen Stiles, Doris Duckworth, and Gertrude Post.
Mrs. Wyckoff was a former school teacher and taught in Marion County.
She was a graduate of the Fairmont Normal School.
Mrs. Wyckoff was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Fairmont,
a member of the J.M. Black Class of the church and served on the Sunshine
Committee.
There will be no visitation. A graveside service will be held at 2
p.m. Monday at the Bridgeport Benedum Cemetery with Dr. Gene Lassiter officiating.
McGlumphy Funeral Home and Chapel, 206 E. Main St., Clarksburg, are
in charge of the arrangements.
